Yellow jersey
Yellow jersey the yellow jersey of the leader of the general classification is one of emblématiques the symbols of the Turn of France. The yellow color points out that of the newspaper the Car (ancestor of the Team), organizer of the test. The signature of Henri Desgrange, the famous HD, flowering ash this shirt after a bracket of a few years only where this use was forgotten.
This distinctive shirt is created in 1919, in full Turn. It is at the beginning of Grenoble (11th stage), July 19, 1919, that Eugene Christophe is covered very first yellow jersey of the history.
The general classification at time being the most important classification, a cyclist who is at the head several classifications (mountain and sprinter) carries obviously the yellow jersey. The second of the classification of the mountain or the sprinters then carries, by interim, the shirt with pea or green.
Among the largest cyclists not having never carried the yellow jersey, it is advisable to announce Raymond Poulidor. Points score
This classification consists of the attribution of a number of points decreasing to the first runners of each stage. It is in this way that the general classification was made at the time of the first turns, before the classification at time.
The points score is recreated in 1953. It stresses the arrivals at the sprints. In order to pack this classification, of the intermediate sprints the stages punctuate. These intermediate sprints give some points to the three first. The stages of mountain allot only few points for this classification, while the stages of plain, with arrival attends with the sprint, are more richly equipped. It is well a classification of the best sprinter and not a points score of use at the time of the first editions of the Turn. A green shirt identifies in the group the leader of this classification, or the second, if the leader of this classification is also the carrier of the yellow jersey. The specific green shirt is of use since creation of the points score, in 1953, except at the time of the Tour de France1968 when it was red.
